TopSite FAQ

Q: How does the top sites system work?
A: Webmasters that want to promote their website can register an account and manage their site to change the display banner, description, name and manage other options. It is good to keep your site id and password at a good place.

Q: How does voting work?
The given code can be used to display an image or simply a text link, and this is "voting" for the site which bumps it to the top and gives the site a point. If the redirect code is designed to go to the home page of the site it's installed on, it gives the site 2 points. This can be good for doing link exchanges as the link can simply be used on a banner ad.

Q: Why does it not rank by points?
A: It was actually quite easier to program it that way, and it makes for a more unique ranking system, as every site can easily have the chance to be seen near the top. Sites that have not been voted for in a while quickly fall in the bottom of the list, but can get right back to the top by votes.

Q: What are points for?
A: Points enable webmasters to "buy" space in the "featured site" section. When the account is created, a permanent entry in the rotator is added with the current banner info only, buying space enables to be seen more often and with the currently selected banner.

Q: What is the messenger feature for and how does it work?
A: When you log in to your account, you can use the messenger to send messages to other webmasters who's site is listed. This can be used sort of like at trash talk and just for fun.

Q: I changed my banner, but the banner space I purchased still uses the old one!
A: This is normal. When you buy space, it updates a record for the banner rotation system with your current info. If you update your account, the ad record remains in the ad record unless you buy more space.

Q: How often can I vote?
A: There is no set limit on how often you can vote, however, you cannot vote twice in a row from the same network interface.

Have fun!
